About HD

Treatment

The good news is there is always something that can be done for a patient with Huntington’s Disease. Treating HD and its symptoms commonly begins with medical care and medications that can start at $4 per month. Therapy has shown positive impacts, especially interpersonal or cognitive behavioral therapy. Proper management of HD symptoms will make a huge difference in the quality of life of the affected individual and his or her family members.

Start proactively managing symptoms of Huntington’s Disease by creating a healthcare team to help in the decision-making process. Ideally, this team would include:

  • Ancillary professionals (such as a speech therapist, occupational therapist, or physical therapist).

  • Neurologist with experience with movement disorders.

  • Primary care physician.

  • Psychiatrist, neuropsychiatrist, or geriatric psychiatrist.

  • Mental health therapist.

The HD Reach clinicians are ready and willing to collaborate with your doctor and answer any questions you—or your doctor—may have. Contact us and we’ll help put you on a path to living well.

Additional resources to take advantage of include:

Handling HD isn’t easy. That’s why we strongly recommend putting your healthcare team in place while things are going well and before a crisis happens. This way you can ensure each provider meets your expectations. In addition, continue to search other reputable sources for breaking news and updated information about treatment options. Connect with others who have HD by joining one of our support groups in Charlotte or Greenville, NC, in addition to the Triad support group and our Triangle support group.
